Introduction To Solids Guide:
There are a lot of things to consider when starting solids with your baby, and for Mama, it can feel a little overwhelming. What do I feed him? And how? And when? It’s important to realize that an infants biochemistry is different then an older child’s and even an adult’s. We must take into consideration a baby’s biochemistry and their physical and neurological developmental nutritional needs. Waiting to introduce foods will greatly reduce the risk of allergies and autoimmune diseases associated with them. In order to help Mama along, we’ve included a beautiful and practical, easy to follow reference guide so she can feel confident in the foods she’s feeding her baby.

WHY ORGANIC COTTON? Many parents have questions about cotton. Is regular cotton okay, or should you use organic? The major difference is pesticides. More pesticides are used on cotton crops than any other crop in the world. That’s a full 25%! Pesticides have been linked to several diseases and conditions, including asthma, autism, learning disabilities, birth defects, reproductive dysfunction, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and several types of cancer. When cotton is grown organically, it is done without the use of chemicals or harmful pesticides. A field must be pesticide-free for at least three years to be certified organic, and the cotton must be processed according to international organic standards. When you decide to purchase a baby basket from My Organic Havynn, you can rest easy that your baby will be wrapped in certified organic cotton.
WHY DITCH THE PLASTIC? Did you know there may be a hidden danger inside the plastic containers you use each and every day? Some plastics contain:
• Chemical softeners
• Parabens, phthalates and pvc
• Artificial colours
To avoid the potentially dangerous health risks associated with these chemicals, choose toxin-free plastic, stainless steel or glass containers.
HOW SAFE IS COMMERCIAL BABY FOOD? Makers of baby food want parents to think that commercial baby foods have special properties that make them particularly appropriate, if not essential, for infants. Advertising campaigns promote the myth that commercial products are especially good at meeting the nutritional and developmental needs of infants. Parents expect baby foods to be nutritious, but upon closer inspection many studies have found commercial baby foods replace real food with water and thickening agents (flours and chemically modified starches). Parents often pay more than double for baby food than what it would cost to make it homemade. Armed with a food processor, blender, or mashing fork, you can easily prepare safe, nutritious, and economical food for infants at home. Of course, many commercial products are nutritious and do fill a need when convenience is desired, but you have to do your homework to ensure you are purchasing a product that is nutritionally rich with organic ingredients. Prepare your own baby foods whenever possible. With a blender or food processor it is easy to make a purée of most foods. Soft foods, like bananas, can be mashed with a fork. All foods, with the exception of bananas, should be well cooked. Refrigerate any foods that are not used right away. You can make large batches of baby foods, freeze them in ice-cube trays or small containers, and thaw them as needed.
